

COLOMBO: The Sustaineco Social Services organization has focused on supporting Sri Lanka to achieve Sustainable Development Goals in terms of livelihood development, Capacity building and Eco-Systems Development by launching a number of key projects covering almost all parts of the country particularly underdeveloped areas.
This non-profit organization based in Canada has launched a number of projects aiming at developing the sanitary facilities at rural schools. Many projects aiming at ensuring better sanitary facilities for the school children in rural areas are in progress.
According to Organization’s International Coordinator Inoka Gamage, the organization had launched a number of projects in the Uva Wellassa region during the height of the Covid 19 pandemic
“We succeeded in distributing over 5000 dry ration packs in the Moneragala district during the second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic”, she said
Inoka Gamage who benefitted from the free education system said she wanted to serve her motherland by collecting funds donors and philanthropists in Canada and other countries for the benefit of less privileged in the society
Speaking at a press conference at Shangri la Hotel in Colombo Saturdayu morning, May 28, she said that her organization will also focus on the elimination of child labour, guidance and assistance in helping young people of all walks of life to further hone their talents and addressing malnutrition among child and mothers.
“We have already carried out comprehensive research in the Uva Wellassa region with an intent of addressing these issues. Many schools in the region require , drinking water and sanitary facilities and waste disposal mechanism”, she said
She said that these issues will be addressed very soon with the support of international donor agencies.
Our organization is presently in discussion with the Agriculture Department on how it can help implement a vegetable cultivation project . “We are in the process of identifying vegetable varieties “, she said

Legal advisor of the organization Attorney at Law Rasika Sanjeewa Weerawickrama said that the country needs a viable solution to end the malnutrition among the schoolchildren in remote areas.
He said that country needs a solution other than the production of Thrposha which was initiated with the assistance of CARE in Canada in 1973.
