DUBAI: India thrashed Afghanistan by 101 runs in the Super four round match today where Kohli demonstrated his batting supremacy with a century and Bhuvnesh Kumar displayed a devastating 5-wicket spell. However, the Asia Cup 2022 campaign ends for both India and Afghanistan.
Afghanistan won the toss and invited India to bat first. K L Rahul led the team and opened the batting with V Kohli. They put together a scintillating opening partnership of 119 runs. Kohli dominated the Afghan bowling and went on to hit his first T20 century and stood unbeaten at 122 off 61 balls. This was Kohli’s 71st century in all formats and was indeed a treat for the fans (includes 27 centuries in tests & 43 in ODI’s). India set a massive target of 212 for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through the Afghanistan batting line up and picked up a 5-wicket haul for the 4 runs in his 4 overs. His devastating bowling spell restricted Afghanistan’s batting. I Zadran fought alone and scored 64 runs and ensured that Afghanistan go past 100. India won by 101 runs after restricting Afghanistan to 111 runs for 8 wickets off 20 overs.
