COLOMBO: The Lankan government announced here on Sunday,August 29,that a kilogramme of sugar will be sold at the Sathosa retail outlets for Rs 130/- from Wednesday.
Lasantha Alagiyawanna State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection made this statement while he was addressing press conference held on Sunday evening.
Alagiyawanna said that a number of traders who have hoarded the sugar during this crisis have been booked and the government will take legal action against them in due course. More than 5,000 metric tons of sugar have been confiscated by the government officials from traders’ stores.
The state minister said legal action will be taken against these offenders who have violated the government’s pricing regulations and they will be subject to a minimum of six-month jail for their offences and the hoarded sugar will be confiscated.
