NEGOMBO- Retail shops in Negombo and Kochikade were closed for a week from Thursday, August 19, to curb the rapid spread of the Covid virus in the island.
The temporary closure was due to a decision taken by the Negombo Traders Association in compliance with the Negombo Municipal Council.
Mayor of Negombo Dayan Lansa had told Colombo Times that the members of the Negombo Traders Assocation to apprise the Negombo Municipal Council,NMC, of the current Covid situation and they were told of the total number of victims and new cases in Kochikade and Negombo areas.
“ So we all decided to cooperate with the government to keep the shops closed for a period of one week to control the death and rising number of new cases due to the pandemic.
