COLOMBO : Former Western Provincial Council member Arshard Nizamdeen, on Tuesday, June 21, made a complaint to the Human Rights Commission against the secretary of Buddasasana Ministry and the Director of Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural affairs (DMRCA) on their purported and selective regulations on importing Islamic books and the Quran from overseas.
Nizamdeen in his complaint alleged that these regulations are ultra virus, selective and confined only to one particular minority community in Sri Lanka. And this is a blatant violation of Fundamental Rights guaranteed Article 12 and 14 of the Constitution. He further stated that he intends to file a Fundamental Rights Application in Supreme Court of Sri Lanka to challenge these regulations imposed only on a minority community.
There are many RTI request were sent to the Director of DMRCA to ascertain on what basis these regulations are imposed and non were responded by the said official. For these omissions of said Director of DMRCA, a complaint to be lodged with the RTI commission.
