NEGOMBO – A discussion on the development of the St. Sebastian’s Fish Market in Wallaveediya, Negombo and the transfer of its ownership to St. Sebastian’s Church, was held at the church on the 20th under the patronage of State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure, Nimal Lansa.
With the intervention of St. Sebastian’s Church and the Joint Fisheries Association, a new model for the development of this fish market with modern and innovative facilities was planned, but it has not yet been approved by the relevant institutions.
State Minister, Nimal Lansa stated that there is no problem in developing this fish market and that the necessary permission will be granted by the Negombo Municipal Council. And he stated that the State Ministry of Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure will also provide assistance for the development of infrastructure including the concrete and drainage system of the fish market. He further stated that necessary steps will be taken to pass a proposal by the Negombo Municipal Council and hand over the activities of the fish market to St. Sebastian’s Church.
