COLOMBO : The 2025 Local Government Elections officially commenced at 7 am and will continue until 4 p.m. today,Tuesday May 6.
This polls will elect 8,287 members to 339 local government bodies across the country.
A total of 13,759 polling centers have been established islandwide for the voting process.
A total of 17,156,338 voters are eligible to cast their votes in this election.
There are 75,589 candidates contesting, representing 49 recognized political parties and 257 independent groups.

In Colombo , Deputy Speaker of Parliament Dr. Rizvi Salih registered his vote at Carey College Polling Booth for Local Government Elections 2025,while Former Eastern Province Governor M L A M Husbullah cast his vote in a booth in his hometown in Kattankudy.
The district-level voter turnout for the 2025 Local Government (LG) election has already exceeded 20 per cent in several districts at 10 am , according to reports.
Accordingly, the voter turnout percentages of all districts as at 10.00 a.m. this morning (May 06) are as follows:
