COLOMBO The “ Eid ul Fitr “ Ramazan Festival is celebrated at the end of Ramazan, a period of one month fasting. It is a happy occasion when Muslims mark the accomplishment of fasting and thank Almighty Allah for giving them the self control to succeed.
Muslims in Sri Lanka celebrate Ramazan Festival at home with family members in a simple manner due to the COVID 19 ( Corona Virus) pandemic all over the world including our Motherland.
Fasting along with Zakath (charity) which occupied a prominent place in the month of Ramazan to uplift suffering of the underprivileged segments of the society, educates us to look after the needs of the society at all times to all people within caste, creed, or racial differences. The Eid festival day Muslims are not permissible to fast.
Islam has bestowed two festivals for its followers, “ Eid ul Fitr “ the Ramazan Festival and “ Eid ul Azha “ the Hajj Festival . Both are celebrated after some sacrifices, which make them even more valuables. The festivals begin at the first sighting of the new moon.
Eid ul Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family the completion of a month of blessings
Every single month in the Islamic calendar begins when the new moon is sighted. Eid ul Fitr begins when the new moon of Shawwal (10th Month of the Islamic Calendar). The crescent appears on different dates and different parts of the world.
Eid is celebrated on the first date of Shawwal, During the festival, Muslims exchange gifts, greeting their neighbors as a mark of solidarity and brotherhood.
May Almighty Allah accept our religious observances performed during the holy month of Ramadan and rewards us in this world as well as in the hereafter
