COLOMBO : In response to the sentiments expressed by the members of the Muslim community , the Sri Lankan government has decided to appoint a Muslim to the post of its Consul General in Jeddah.
Speaking to Colombo Times on Monday , Jan.5, deputy minister of foreign affairs Arun Hemachandra said that considering the sentiments of the Muslim community, a Muslim consul general will be appointed to the Consulate in Jeddah .
The deputy minister explained that the government is conscious of the the feelings of the Muslim community and it also understands the complications involved in appointing a non-Muslim to Jeddah since there are restrictions to visit the Holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
