COLOMBO : Sri Lanka on Friday May 07 registered 19 more victims of COVID. the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day. There were 1,914 new patients admitted to hospitals in various parts of the island for Covid treatment.
The latest victims have moved the country’s death toll to 764, the, the Department of Government Information stated.
According to official data, 06 of the victims were in their sixties while another 06 were in seventies. Three others were aged over 80 years. Meanwhile, the remaining four had been in their forties and fifties, reports revealed.
Further, COVID pneumonia has been identified as one of the causes of death of 16 victims.
According to the Department of Government Information, 1,889 of Thursday’s ’s patients were linked to the New Year Cluster. The cluster has expanded to 24,577 patients and the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters have a cumulative patient count of 115,324.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 82,785 COVID-19 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster, 4,903 patients were from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons were from the Divulapitiya cluster.
A total of 3,762 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 313 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the island.
