COLOMBO : The United Nations Association of Sri Lanka (UNA-SRI LANKA) conducted the National Observance of the United Nations Day on Sunday, October 24, with the hoisting of the National Flag and United Nations Flag, at the National Secretariat General of the UNA-SRI LANKA, in Panadura.
The National Flag was hoisted by the President of the UNA-SRI LANKA, Mohamed Zawahir and the United Nations Flag was hoisted by the Secretary General of the UNA-SRI LANKA, Errol Smith, amidst a limited gathering, in keeping with the COVID 19 guidelines.
Present on the occasion were also the UNA-SRI LANKA, Executive Chairman, Dr. M.M.M. Rushanudeen, Treasurer, Kumudu Weerasinghe, Editor & Asst. Treasurer, Dharmadasa Vitharana, Assistant Secretary General, Dr. Upali Jayawardena and several other members and invitees.
A two-page Supplement was published in the Sunday Observer of 24th October, 2021 in commemoration of the 76th Anniversary of the United Nations and the 71st Anniversary of the United Nations Association of Sri Lanka. Copies of this Supplement were officially handed over to the President and Executive Chairman of the UNA-SRI LANKA by its Secretary General. The distinguished invitees were also presented with copies of this newspaper.
The Ceylon Daily News and the Colombo Times also published special supplements to mark the UN Day in Sri Lanka/
Certificates were awarded to those students we had successfully completed the Computer Training Course conducted by the Association.
The Kanagawa, Japan Art Competition which is conducted biennially is a major global event where the UNA-SRI LANKA selects entries and submit them to this competition. It is noteworthy that this year too, Three Participants have been adjudged winners and the Certificates received from Japan, were presented to them by Special Life Member of the UNA-SRI LANKA, Shantha Jayasena, who is the Chairman of Lanka Ashok Layland PLC., and Chairman, Lanka Layland Ltd., which is under the Ministry of Industries.
The United Nations Association in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, (UNASL) was established on 19th August, 1950 (five years before Sri Lanka was admitted as a Member State of the United Nations on 14th December, 1955). The UNA-SRI LANKA, is a non-profit organization incorporated in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under the Companies Act No.17 of 1982 under Registration No. N (A) 133 and under the amended Companies Act of 2007, with its liabilities limited by guarantee It counts over 70 years of active operations in Sri Lanka.
