


COLOMBO: A large number of Sri Lankans from all walks of life were present at the Turkiye mission in Colombo to register their feelings of sympathy to the government and people of the bereaved country.
he Ambassador of Turkiye, Demet Sekercioglu told Colombo Times that she was touched by the spontaneous response from the people of Sri Lanka who stretched their helping hands in whatever possible ways.



The toll is reaching nearly 20,000 on Thursday, according to reliable reports from Istanbul.
Foreign minister Ali Sabry said after registering his message of condolences on Thursday, Feb.9 : “ I shared my thoughts in the book of Condolence at the Embassy in the presence of the ambassador this morning. The past few days have indeed been a difficult time, and I pray for the continued success of the rescue efforts.”
Colombo District Masjids Federation (CDMF) President Shiraz Noordeen met the Ambassador of Turkey, Her Excellency Demet Sekercioglu and handed over our Official Condolences letter and inked a condolence message in the official book.
The Ambassador was thankful for the Dua sessions to be held after Friday’s Jummah prayers, organised by the CDMF in various mosques in Colombo district. She mentioned such Duas are very much needed at this time of Calamities,Noordeen told Colombo Times.
Further her Excellency sought CDMF’s support in getting materials in kind. And informed that the embassy will open a designated Bank Account to receive the monetary help and CDMF to support such appeals.
Minister of Education Susil Premjayanth,former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and heads of missions from Saudi Arabia, Indonesia ,Vietnam, Malaysia, and Australia, were among those who visited the embassy to convey their sympathies.
