COLOMBO — Sri Lanka Jama’the Islami:,SLJI, will be celebrating its 70th anniversary celebration dubbed as “ National Member Convention 2024 “ on Saturday June 29 at 4.30 p.m. at the BMICH, Colombo.
The media briefing was held at the SLJI Headquarters to mark the anniversary on Wednesday June 26.
The Sri Lanka Jama’the Islami founded in 1954, was part of a broader renaissance among the Sri Lankan Communities seeking Social and Spiritual upliftment soon after the Independence. It has been emphasizing moderation, inclusivity, human welfare, and advocating for nation building.
The Assistant General Secretary of the SLJI M.H.M.Hassan said SL Jama’the Islami has always prioritized the holistic betterment of society and objectives are clear to guide Muslims in practicing Islam, promote social welfare, foster mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence, protect the environment and contribute to the nation’s growth.
Also he briefed the media on the SLJI services for the last 70 years services to the community and country. He said their efforts for environmental protection and campaigns for good governance, emphasizing transparency and accountability are part of its prime focus. Further,he said the SLJI organization fosters peaceful co-existence among diverse communities, encouraging dialogue and mutual respect.
More than 1500 delegates and 600 guests will be present at the National Member Convention. Walpola Rahula Institute Director Ven. Galkande Dhammananda Thero and Lanka Jathika Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement Chairman Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne will be the key speakers.
