BANGKOK : The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand,
Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, met with President of Thai Public Broadcasting Service (ThaiPBS),
Vanchai Tantivitayapitak on 29 August 2025 in Bangkok.
The President of ThaiPBS, Tantivitayapitak extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador,
recalling his visit to Sri Lanka where he had the opportunity to travel to iconic historical and
cultural sites including Sigiriya, Anuradhapura, Kandy, and Dambulla.
During the discussion, Ambassador Edirisinghe highlighted the Embassy’s recent
collaborations with ThaiPBS, including the programme organized in 2025 to mark
International Women’s Day, which brought together five foreign Ambassadors. She also
recalled the Embassy’s facilitation of a Familiarization Tour to Sri Lanka for representatives
of ThaiPBS and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, supported by Thai Airways. The tour,
which showcased Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and religious heritage, featured the
“Solosmasthana” – the sixteen sacred Buddhist sites of the island. The Ambassador extended
an invitation to ThaiPBS to participate in similar initiatives in future.
Accepting the invitation, the President of ThaiPBS noted that a ThaiPBS team had
previously visited Sri Lanka and produced a four-episode short film series titled “Spirit of
Asia”, which captured the beauty of Sri Lanka and the vibrancy of its people.
The Ambassador further invited ThaiPBS to collaborate with a leading Sri Lankan
documentary filmmaker who has produced five films on Sri Lanka’s ancient Buddhist
monasteries, temples, and the world-renowned Sigiriya rock fortress, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. Ambassador Edirisinghe proposed that ThaiPBS assist with Thai-language
dubbing to enable the documentaries to reach wider audiences in Thailand and to be used as
promotional material, including at Embassy-organized events.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Directors General Somchai Bhudachandra and Piset
Chiyasak, and officials of ThaiPBS, Minister Counsellor/Head of Chancery, Thilini Ihalage
and Minister Counsellor/Commerce, Shiwanthi Abeyarathne of the Embassy.
