


LAS VEGAS : The Annual Award Ceremony of the Sri Lanka America Association of Las Vegas was held
on 6 of September, 2025 at the Church of Scientology and Celebrity Centre in Las Vegas,
Nevada, U.S.A. A large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriates, community leaders,
professionals, students, and representatives of allied associations in the region attended the
event.
The objectives of the award ceremony were to recognize and celebrate the achievements and
contributions of the Sri Lankan Americans and community members, to strengthen ties
among the Sri Lankan community, to foster a sense of unity and to promote Sri Lanka’s image
in Las Vegas.
The Minister (Commerce) of the Consulate General in Las Vegas Rekha Mallikarachchi
delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, emphasizing the
importance of the Sri Lankan community in promoting trade, investment, tourism, and
cultural exchange.
She also congratulated the award winners for their outstanding contributions to both the local
community and Sri Lanka and highlighted opportunities for collaboration between Sri
Lankans in the United States and stakeholders in Sri Lanka in the areas such as education,
technology, tourism, and business.
The event provided the opportunity to engage in discussions with community members and
leaders regarding potential avenues to support Sri Lanka’s economic advancement. During
the engagements it was observed that the Sri Lankan community in Las Vegas is highly
engaged, resourceful, and eager to contribute to the development of the motherland and there
is a strong interest to explore opportunities in economic and cultural exchanges.
The award ceremony was well organized and served as an effective platform for community
building and outreach.
