COLOMBO : Police announced that a special traffic plan will be implemented in and around the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya, Colombo, from the morning of February 5, in view of public worship of the sacred relics arriving from India on February 4.
As the Sacred Relic Exposition for public veneration will be conducted 24 hours a day, the public has been requested to cooperate fully with the security arrangements put in place for the safety of devotees. Police expect a large gathering of local and foreign devotees and have warned of the possible presence of pickpockets and thieves, urging the public to take special care of wallets, gold ornaments, and personal belongings.
The public is advised not to bring mobile phones, luggage, jackets, or electronic devices into the sacred relic veneration area and to assist security personnel during inspections. Motorists are requested to follow traffic rules strictly and use only designated parking areas.
To facilitate transport, a shuttle service will operate from the old MOD site parking area, Port City parking lot, and parking areas near the Shangri-La Hotel to the Gangaramaya Temple. Several roads near the temple will be closed, and special restrictions will be imposed on heavy vehicles during this period, police said.
