COLOMBO : President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed Prof. Ramees Aboobakker as the Vice Chancellor of South Eastern University (SEU). He is now serving as the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
He will assume duties of the new post from August 9. This is the first time in the history of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, which has more than 25 years academic records, that a student of the University has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor.
He was educated as the first Bachelor of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts and Culture of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka and was elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Culture. Recently he was promoted to the first Professor of Sociology. Professor Rameez Aboobakker,43,has been appointed Vice Chancellor at a very young age in the history of the University System of Sri Lanka. He succeeds Vice Chancellor Prof. M. M. M. Najim.
