COLOMBO Thirty-nine more deaths and 3,306 new cases of Covid virus were diagnosed in Sri Lanka on Wednesday, Director-General of Health Services confirmed here.
The latest fatalities have moved the country’s death toll to 1,566, according to Epidemiology Unit data.
.Reportedly, 27 of them were over the age of 60.
The deceased – 19 females and 20 males – were identified as residents of Moratuwa, Muwandeniya, Matale, Borella, Badulla, Jaffna, Wahamalgollewa, Trincomalee, Gampola, Kotmale, Vavuniya, Kelaniya, Waththegama, Badalkumbura, Elpitiya, Dompe, Kattankudy 02, Wellampitiya, Wattala, Horana, Bandaragama, Maskeliya, Hatton, Watawala, Nawalapitiya, Hapugasthalawa, Kurunegala, Gampaha, Gelioya, Bogawanthalawa and Medawachchiya.
COVID pneumonia was recorded as the cause of death of majority of the victims.
Daily COVID-19 cases count moved to 3,306 on Wednesday (June 02) as 738 more people were tested positive for the virus in Sri Lanka.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in the country to 192,547.
Government Information Department stated that the new cases reported today were associated with the New Year coronavirus cluster.
As many as 160,714 recoveries and 1,566 deaths have been confirmed in Sri Lanka since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
According to official data, up to 30,267 active cases are currently under medical care at designated hospitals and treatment centres.
