COLOMBO : The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress headed by Rauf Hakeem has suspended Ali Zahir Moulana, Member of Parliament, from its membership on Saturday, August 17 for joining the President Ranil’s group in the upcoming polls.
Issuing the suspension notice to Moulana, SLMC Secretary Nizam Karriaper said it was a Violation of Party Decisions Taken at the High Command Meeting Held on 4th
August 2024-Gross Breach of Party Discipline
“ You are well aware that at the High Command meeting held on 4th August 2024, the Party unanimously decided, after lengthy discussions, to support the candidature of Hon. Sajith Premadasa at the Presidential Election 2024.”, Karriaper said.
I have been instructed by the Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Hon. Rauf Hakeem, to inform you that your decision to support the candidatureof Ranil Wickremesinghe in the
2024 Presidential Election is a complete violation of the Party’s decision, as well as the pledge you made in your affidavit when you were declared elected as one of the Deputy Leaders of the Party at the Party Delegate Conference held on 22nd June 2024.
Therefore, I have been instructed by the Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Hon.Rauf Hakeem, to inform youthat your membership in the Party is suspended with immediate effect,” The letter concluded.
