
COLOMBO : The Sri Lankan IT Professionals Association (SLITPA) UAE, with the support of the
Consulate General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, successfully hosted
the SLITPA UAE Awards Night 2025 on 28 June 2025 at the Pullman Dubai Creekside
Hotel, Dubai. The annual event celebrated the outstanding achievements of Sri Lankan
professionals contributing to the UAE’s dynamic technology and innovation landscape.
The evening brought together a diverse audience, including diplomats, business leaders,
and members of the Sri Lankan professional community in the UAE.
The event was graced by the Minister of Science and Technology of Sri Lanka,
Chrishantha Abeysena who delivered the keynote address, highlighting Sri Lanka’s
national digital policy and the important role of the diaspora in contributing to the
country’s technological and economic advancement. He also invited the community to
take part in Disrupt Asia 2025, Sri Lanka’s flagship technology summit.
Also addressing the gathering were Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the UAE, Arusha Cooray,
Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Alexi Gunasekera and
President of SLITPA, Thishan Gunasekara.
The Consul General, in his remarks, highlighted Sri Lanka’s ongoing digitalisation
initiatives and emphasised that experienced Sri Lankan IT professionals in the UAE can
play a vital role in accelerating this transformation. He also noted the growing potential of
Sri Lanka’s IT services exports and encouraged the diaspora to support the sector through
investment, knowledge sharing, and establishing global market linkages. The Consul
General requested SLITPA’s assistance in organising a strong Sri Lankan delegation to
participate in Disrupt Asia 2025 and underscored the importance of Sri Lanka’s continued
presence at international tech exhibitions such as GITEX Global in Dubai to promote
local innovation and forge global partnerships.
This year’s awards, presented under the theme of “Trust, Innovation, and Impact”,
honoured several high-performing individuals and organisations across the UAE’s tech
sector.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and the Northern Emirates extends its
congratulations to SLITPA UAE on the successful organisation of the Awards Night 2025
and reaffirms its continued support for initiatives that elevate Sri Lankan professional
excellence and promote the country’s presence on the global stage.
