COLOMBO : In commemoration of its 35th anniversary, the Serendib Education Foundation (SEF) held a gracious ceremony where President Fazl Amanulla presented five brand-new Dell laptops to the Principal of Welagoda Muslim Vidyalaya, Wattala. Established in 1952, the school provides Tamil-medium education up to the GCE (O/L) level.
This donation is part of SEF’s broader commitment, which also includes funding a modern library currently under construction. Founded under Parliament Act No. 54 of 2009, SEF has remained steadfast in its mission to empower underprivileged and deserving students with access to quality digital learning.
Since the launch of its Digital Education Initiative in 2017, the foundation has continually expanded its programs to ensure students are equipped with the tools and skills needed to succeed in a fast-evolving digital era. Central to this vision is SEF’s focus on nurturing English proficiency and IT literacy as pillars of a well-rounded education.
Over the years, SEF’s far-reaching projects to advance technical and skill-based education have benefited numerous schools across the country, including Bakinagahawela National School in Moneragala, Nasianthuvu Vidyalaya in Pasikuda, Nachchaduwa MMV in Anuradhapura, Siddi Lebbe Vidyalaya in Kandy, Al Ashraff MMV & St. Mary’s College in Mabole, De La Salle College in Mutwal, Meelad Muslim MV in Dehiwela, and Welagoda Muslim Vidyalaya.
Adding further distinction to its achievements this year, SEF also launched English language programs in Jaffna, extending valuable support to university and advanced-level students in the region.
