COLOMBO : The Ministry of Education states that schools across the island will function as usual on Monday, (June 24), according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education on Sunday afternoon on June (23).
However, the non-academic staff of the government schools have announced that they will launch a trade union action by reporting sick on Monday (24) and Tuesday (25), demanding a national policy for the non-academic service in the education sector.
General Secretary of the Union, Ajith K. Thilakarathna, said this decision was made due to delays in addressing the issues faced by non-academic staff in schools, the failure to implement the national education and non-academic service policy and the lack of clear answers from the Government’s end regarding future actions related to their profession.
The University Trade Union Joint Committee (UTUJC) stated that their strike action could be concluded on Monday if the government provides a favourable response regarding the matter.
