COLOMBO ; Geligiriya village in the Gulgamuwa area, one of the most severely affected regions by Cyclone Ditwa, is continuing to struggle with the aftermath of the disaster. In response, the Mei Foundation, led by its General Secretary Dr. Kifaya Ifthikar, organized a medical camp to provide essential healthcare services to the affected community.
The medical camp focused on treating both physical ailments and mental health issues, as many residents are still living under severe trauma caused by Cyclone Ditwa. The cyclone resulted in extensive damage to homes, disruption of livelihoods, and lack of access to basic medical facilities, leaving people mentally and physically affected.
A team from Mercy Malaysia also visited the medical camp and toured the affected village to assess the humanitarian situation and ongoing needs of the community.
In support of the relief efforts, YMMA donated Rs. 50,000 worth of medicines to patients in the cyclone-affected village. These medicines were distributed to those suffering from injuries, infections, and other health conditions aggravated by the disaster.
Organizers emphasized that while emergency medical care is vital, long-term psychological support and rehabilitation are necessary to help the community recover fully from the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwa.
