
COLOMBO: Saudi Ambassador Khalid bin Hamoud Alkahtani hosted a luncheon in honor of Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad on Thursday May, 16 at Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo.
Ambassadors of Arab countries based in Colombo including UAE, Qatar, Oman, Libya, Iraq and Egypt graced the occasion. They presented a momento to Ambassador Ameer Ajwad jointly with Ambassador Alkhatani.
Ambassador Designate Ajwad is a career diplomat who joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) in 1998.
He is presently serving as the Additional Secretary in charge of the Consular Affairs, Africa Affairs, Performance Review and Implementation as well as the Emergency Response Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. He previously served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Sultanate of Oman with the concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Yemen (2019 – 2022).
He had also served as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka (Actg.) to Singapore and Brunei Darussalam prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman. He also served as the Director General for the East Asia and Pacific Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka from 2015 to 2017.
Ambassador Ajwad holds a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Arts from the University of Peradeniya, Bachelor’s Degree in Laws (LLB) and a Master’s Degree in Laws (LL.M) from the University of Colombo. He is also an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. During his tenure in Oman,he wrote a book on Sri Lanka-Oman relations.
