COLOMBO :In celebration of the Ramadan Cultural Festival in the latter part of March 2025, the Western Provincial Council has announced plans to organize a cultural event aimed at fostering greater awareness of the rich traditions and heritage of Sri Lanka’s Muslim community.
A planning meeting, chaired by Governor Hanif Yusoof, was held at the Western Province Governor’s Office. The Governor emphasized the need for collaboration among all institutions within the province to ensure the success of this festival.
Under the supervision and guidance of Governor Yusoof, a special committee led by Rizan Naseer has been appointed to oversee the event. The festival will showcase the cuisine, culture, and traditions of various Muslim communities, including Moors, Memons, Malays, and Dawoodi Bohras. This initiative aims not only to promote interfaith harmony but also to enhance economic participation.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, MyBiz Chamber, Overseas Realty PLC, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, Colombo City Police Urban Security Division, Colombo Municipal Council, Roar Global, Colombo District Masjid Federation, Anjuman-é-Saifi Trust (Sri Lanka), and the Sri Lanka Malay Association, along with officials from the Western Province Governor’s Office.
During the discussion, it was agreed that city beautification projects, including street decorations, would take place on the last ten evenings and nights of Ramadan from March 21st to 31st, with dedicated cultural events to go with it.
Governor Yusoof emphasized the significance of preserving and celebrating all religious and cultural festivities in Sri Lanka. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring meaningful celebrations for Ramadan, Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Easter, Vesak, and Poson across the Western Province.
