COLOMBO : A delegation from the Russian Federation, led by Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, arrived in Sri Lanka this Sunday morning, May (03) on a three-day official visit.
The seven-member delegation arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and was received at the VIP lounge by Minister of Science and Technology Krishantha Abeysena, Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Levan Dzhagaryan, Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media Anil Jasinghe, and Director of International Health Anil Samaranayake.
Following the reception, a brief discussion was also held with the visiting delegation.
During the visit, Minister Murashko and his delegation are scheduled to hold a special meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa to strengthen cooperation and ties in the health sector between Russia and Sri Lanka.
The delegation is also expected to meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath for further discussions.
In addition, the delegation will visit the Colombo National Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo on May 4. Plans are also underway to sign Memorandums of Understanding between the health ministries of the two countries.
Key areas of cooperation expected to be discussed during the visit include pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, training and advanced training of medical specialists, academic collaboration (including exchange programs and joint courses), Ayurveda, digitalization, and health tourism.
The delegation led by Minister Mikhail Murashko is scheduled to conclude the visit and depart Sri Lanka on May 5.
