COLOMBO : The Manager Ground and Turf of SSC Mahesh Bopage on Wednesday,March 15, hinted that there will be a definite result to the 144th Battle of the Blues Inter-School Big Match between traditional rivals Royal College and S. Thomas’ College which began at Maitland Place on Thursday
“This is my first Royal-Thomian Big Match as the curator after taking over duties at the SSC seven months ago and two weeks ago we were able to complete the Ananda-Nalanda Big Match also successfully.”
“I think we could have a result in this three-day fixture if both teams can play proper cricket and if the weather keeps fine,” Bopage said.
“We have already prepared the wicket for the Big Match and now we are into the finishing touches while marking the outfield, which is in good condition.”
“Today we will be covering the wicket beyond 30 yards, and we can start the match at the scheduled time even if there could be any overnight rain,” he stressed.
“We have prepared a grass and hard wicket with a measurement of six millimetres so the bowlers will have a great advantage with pace and bounce.”
“We prepared grass wickets for the SLC organised NSL Super League 4-day matches as well, but all those matches ended as high-scoring games.”
“I think if we want to produce good cricketers the batsmen and the bowlers should be able to perform equally well playing on grass wickets,” Bopage added.
