COLOMBO : Academics, researchers, and industry practitioners from India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Brunei, and Sri Lanka converged online this week for the 3rd Insight International Research Conference 2026(IIRC2026) dedicated to one of the decade’s defining questions: how can technology be harnessed to meet the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals before the 2030 deadline?
Held under the theme “Trends in Sustainable Technology: Opportunities and Challenges,” the conference was organised by the Insight Institute of Management and Technology and conducted through virtual sessions on Google Meet on 28 March 2026. Delegates participated actively with presentations, discussions, and keynote addresses, with engagement spanning multiple time zones.
Of 55 research abstracts submitted from across the region, 47 were selected following a rigorous double-blind peer review process. The accepted abstracts will appear in the official conference proceedings, to be published electronically under ISSN 3021-6672. Research was presented across five thematic tracks:
— Information and Communication Technology
— Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development
— Innovations and Interventions for Sustainable Development
— Sociocultural and Economic Dimensions of Sustainability
— Green Technology and Circular Economy
Keynote addresses were delivered by Prof. Roshan Ragel of the University of Peradeniya and Prof. K. Kumar of the Vellore Institute of Technology, both sharing insights into cutting-edge developments in computing and software systems. Their contributions framed a conference that sought not merely to document the state of sustainable technology, but to sharpen the research agenda around it.
IIRC 2026 was chaired by Prof. M. M. M. Najim, Professor in Agritechnology at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, with Dr. M. T. Ziyad Mohamed serving as Conference Secretary. The organising committee drew on academics from institutions across Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Australia, and Brunei. All presenters received e-certificates, and standout contributors in each session were honoured with a Best Presenter Award.
Insight Institute of Management and Technology (IIMT Campus), a higher education institution in Mawanella, IIRC 2026 marks a third successive year of growing international reach. The institute says the conference’s core ambitions remain consistent: to facilitate the exchange of innovative research, to encourage critical dialogue on technology-driven responses to global challenges, and to build lasting partnerships between academia and industry.
The successful execution of IIRC 2026 underscores the continued commitment of the IIMT Campus to advancing research, innovation, and global dialogue on sustainable development.
The conference had originally been planned as a hybrid event at the institute’s Mawanella campus; sessions were moved entirely online owing to the ongoing fuel crisis.
