
KUALA LUMPUR : Religious leaders from 63 countries will meet on Tuesday ,May 7 at the the International Conference of Religious Leaders in Kuala Lumpur .
The Sri Lankan team is led by a multi-religious group headed by parliamentarian Marjan Faleel.
The conference aims to promote peace, harmony and unity within diversity among religious leaders across the world.
The program will be under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Dr. Mohammad Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars and the Honourable Senator Dato’ Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Na’im bin Haji Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).
The others who will represent the Sri Lankan group includes Most Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thero, President of Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Japan, Reverend Gurukal Dharshaka Sharma All-Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama President As Sheikh Rizwie Mufthi, President of Association of Muslim Youths As Sheikh M S M Thassim, Former Hajj Council Chairman Ahkam Uwise ,Mohammed Mazahir and Colombo Times Chief Editor Mohammed Rasooldeen. Past presidents of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference Khalid Farook and hHaleem A Azeez as special invitees.
The event is sponsored by the Makkah-based World Muslim League in association with the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam n Kuala Lumpur .
As Sheikh Rizvi Mufthi is slated to make a speech on ‘Unity in Diversity’ ,while the chairman of Zam Zam Foundation As Sheikh Yusuf Mufthi is also expected as a participant in the conference.
