NEGOMBO- Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Douglas Devananda told the media on Saturday,June 12, that some compensatory measures will be effected for those fishermen who were affected by the price hike in kerosene oil.
The minister was taking to the media following his meeting with the officials of the Fisheries Association in Negombo.
Besides officials from the Fisheries Association, State Minister Nimal Lansa, Negombo Mayor Dayan Lansa and State Minister Kanchana Wijeyesekara were also present at the meeting.
The Minister recalled that his ministry rejected the proposal to increase kerosene by 35 rupees. “ This was not accepted by the Fisheries Ministry. We agreed to increase by seven rupees only,” he noted.
“ We have a different plan to provide relief to fishermen who were affected by the price hike in kerosene and we will announce them soon,”Minister Devananda added.
