





COLOMBO : VAKAVAM held its 116th poetic session last Poya day, Monday, Oct. 6 at the Old Town Hall, Colombo.
Rauff Hakeem, M.P., former Minister and a Tamil poet, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He recited a vibrant and touching poem reflecting on the current situation in Palestine.SLMC. Hakeem read his pro-Palestine poem “Ink Mixed Blood” in both Tamil and Sinhala languages ,emotionally, at the Poya day Monthly meeting .
During this session, VAKAVAM felicitated veteran Tamil poet Kavimamani Al Asoomath, who was recently conferred the prestigious ‘Sahitya Ratna’ state award for the year 2025 by the Government of the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. He was honoured with a golden shawl and presented with a memento.

Valampuri Kavitha Vattam (VAKAVAM) is a national organisation for Tamil poets in Sri Lanka. On every Poya (Full Moon) day, it conducts a poetic session providing a platform for both senior and young poets to recite their poems before an audience.
