Dr. Bellana stated that a panel of specialist doctors had assessed Wickremesinghe’s condition as serious, prompting the decision to continue monitoring him in the Intensive Care Unit.
He added that doctors are still preparing a detailed medical report, and that further evaluation will be conducted Tuesday morning.
Dr. Bellana further explained that Wickremesinghe had developed complications, including a state of dehydration, with possible effects on the heart, kidneys, and even the brain.
As a result, he underwent an MRI scan Monday afternoon. He warned that without timely tests and treatment, these complications could worsen, but the ICU medical and nursing staff are working to stabilize him. Doctors believe that within the next day or two, his condition may begin to improve.
He also emphasized that only family members and individuals approved by the family are allowed to meet Wickremesinghe. Others are permitted only to come up to the entrance of the ICU.
