COLOMBO : The Railway Department is incurring a loss of between Rs. 8 and 9 million per day due to the trade union action launched against the non-issuance of tickets by the Station Masters this morning, the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters Union (SLRSMU) said.
SLRSMU President Sumedha Somaratne said the average daily ticket revenue of the Railway Department is between Rs. 8 and Rs. 9 million and that revenue could be higher these days due to the festive season.
The department is currently incurring millions of rupees in losses, and this has resulted in a serious loss.
The SLRSMU initiated the trade union action on Wednesday (22) night over the department’s failure to provide proper service to the customers by complying with the Department’s Commercial Regulations on the proper transportation of perishable, non – perishable, and other goods.
If the authorities do not provide a solution, the SLRSMU will go on a continuous strike from 12.00 noon Sunday (26), Mr. Somaratne added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama=Daily mirrior)
