COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s main opposition party, the Samagi Jana Balavegaya,SJB headed by Sajith Premadasa staged a massive demonstration against the rising cost of living opposite the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on Tuesday, March15.
SJB supporting parties and their respective leaders or their deputy were present including Sarath Fonseka,Mano Ganesan,Rauf Hakeem,Mujibur Rahman and SM Marikar.
Speaking on the occasion , Premadasa said that this protest is only a beginning and it will be followed by many more actions if the government pays a deaf hearing to their demands.
“ If they cannot run the government, give it to us and we will show you how to run the show.”Premadasa said, adding that there are friendly countries who would give interest free long term loans to SJB government.
The protesters were denied entry to the presidential secretariat by the Special Task Force. When they tried to break the barriers.
Protestors from many parts of the country marched to Colombo and stationed themselves opposite the Presidential Secretariat demanding the President bring down the prices of goods.The popular slogan during the protest march included ‘Gota Go Home’
The protest movement was led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
