COLOMBO:The Janaza of Desamanya Prof. M.T.A Furkhan, former Chairman of the Board of Management of the Zahira College Colombo and Founder of the Confifi Group of Hotel Companies,took place at the Jawatte Muslim Burial Grounds on after Lubar Prayers on Monday, May 9
He passed away on Sunday,May 8 in Colombo and a huge crowd came to the burial grounds as well to his residence at Guildford Crescent Colombo to pay their last respects. Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was one of the sympathizers who visited the site of the funeral.
The students of Zahira College Colombo including the board of prefects, staff and principal were also present at the gathering.
The National President Shaheed M Rizmy and the Members of the Executive Committee of the All Ceylon Young Men’s Muslim Association Conference (ACYMMAC) express their heartfelt condolences on the demise of Desamanya Professor M.T.A. Furkhan.
In a condolence message, the YMMA said his contributions in terms of public service has been immense. Prof Furkhan has been an active supporter of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference in many ways.
“May Almighty ALLAH (Subhanahu wa-ta’ala) shower His mercy upon him, forgive all his sins, accept all his good deeds, make his grave spacious and illuminated and reward him with the highest position in Jannathul Firdhouse.
We extend our deepest condolences to the members of his family in this time of grief and pray that the Almighty grant them the strength and patience to bear the grief of the great loss.”
Grieved over the death, YMMA President Rizmy said that it is really said that the deceased called him voluntarily during the tail-end of the last Ramadan and donated Rs 500 to his organization to help the deserving people.
On hearing the death news in the United States, Professor Baccha Hussainmiya said in his Facebook : “ I am forwarding this post again in honor of late M.T.A. Furkhan, one of the great men I have met in my life, He was responsible for uplifting the lives of many people and was a great pioneer of developing, founding, and improving management and accountancy studies in Sri Lanka. More importantly his personal contributions to the development of Maradana Zahira College is stupendous and he personally contributed from his own funds millions to improve infrastructural facilities to the school. May he attain high echelons of Jannah.
Attended this evening a great occasion of a felicitation gathering at Colombo Zahra College to honour Prof. M.T.A. Furkhan, a well known pioneer management accountant and entrepreneur, on his induction to the Global Management “Hall of Fame”. He is by far one of the best living Sri Lankan Muslim intellectual, philanthropist, activist, entrepreneur, business leader etc., I was also well impressed by a speech of eulogy made by Mr Razik Zarook, a former SL diplomat and a Chairman of CWE, which summed up the great selfless contributions made by Prof. Furkhan including his personal contribution of more than 60 million rupees to construct a building for primary students section and to construct a swimming pool and so on. The meeting was well attended by many board members, old boys, parents, teachers and students.”
