COLOMBO: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa congratulated the Jaffna Stallions’ victory in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) T20 Cricket Tournament ended in Hambantota on Wednesday.
President Rajapaksa said : “ I appreciate the team effort of all teams & the organizing success shown throughout the series. I see this as an opportunity to find new talents and start marching towards the success of Sri Lanka Cricket.”
Premier Rajapaksa commended all those involved for their remarkable work in making this a successful tournament amidst the Covid pandemic.
Excited cricket enthusiasts in Jaffna displayed their joy and happiness by lighting firecrackers soon after the Stallions defeated the Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in the final encounter played under lights at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium.
In fact, cricket fans had gathered in the main streets in Jaffna and began their celebrations much earlier in anticipation of their triumph when the Stallions amassed a formidable 188 for six wickets in their 20 overs.
Cricket fans in Jaffna were even more elated considering the fact that three of their own players, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth (19), Thevindran Dinoshan (18) and Kanagaratnam Kabilraj (21) were members of the champion Stallions squad.
