JAFFNA – Monday, 15th January was the Thai Pongal which was celebrated by the Hindus as the Harvest Festival throughout the world.
Sri Lanka declared the day as public and mercantile holiday to enable its followers to celebrate the day in a fitting manner.
Jaffna, home for a majority of Hindus, was a place of festivities in every nook and corner of the city.
From the market place to the homes it was full of activities buy special foods, clothings and special items to entertain the guests who visit homes on this auspicious day.
The Hindus started their day with a visit to their nearby temples.
