RATHNEPURA — “This early May, the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte took to Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada) as an initiative towards addressing plastic pollution through an innovative upcycling approach. The project titled “Plastic to Fantastic” was aimed at creating social awareness on the plastic pollution in Sri Lanka and encouraging responsible consumption.
The Rotaractors collected all the plastic waste that were discarded throughout the climbing and all around the vicinity. The collected plastics were then handed over to nearby schools. The innovative solutions created by the school students, from the collected plastics will be displayed during the next season, late December 2024.
The President of the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte, Rebecca states, “As the citizens of the nation it is our responsibility to discourage plastic pollution and take action to reduce environmental damage.” This effort not only cleansed the site but also engaged young innovators in promoting environmental responsibility across the nation.”
