COLOMBO: Speaker, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana was requested by the opposition to appoint Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha De Silva as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) again.
Chief Opposition Whip, Lakshman Kiriella said as per Standing Orders an opposition member should hold the chairmanship of the committee therefore, de Silva, an opposition MP who was the former COPF Chairman should be reappointed to the post.
In response the Speaker said de Silva’s appointment to the position would be decided by the party leaders meeting.
The Speaker announced ten MPs as members of the Committee including Rauf Hakeem, Vijitha Herath, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Chandima Weerakkodi, Nalaka Godahewa, Harsha De Silva, M.A. Sumanthiran, Hesha Vithanage, Mayantha Dissanayake and Harshana Rajakaruna
