COLOMBO : Samagi Jana Balavegaya and Opposition Leader,Sajith Premadasa hosted a meeting with the EU ambassadors based in Colombo to discuss the current trends of the Corona pandemic and other matters of mutual interests especially regarding the democratic rights of the people.
The special meeting held on Tuesday, April 27, was attended by Denise Chaibi, head of the Delegation of the European Union, Ambassador of France Eric Lavertu, the Ambassador of Italy Mrs.Rita Giuliana Mannella, Ambassador of Germany, Holger Seubert and Ambassador of Romania, Victor Chiujdea.
Former ministers Harsha De Silva and Eran Wickremaratne were also present from Premadasa’s side.
The discussions focused on the current crisis situation facing the world in the face of the current Corona disaster and the parallel situation faced in Sri Lanka and the weaknesses in managing this disaster.
Special attention was paid to the repressive measures taken by the government and how to deal with it as an opposition party and a united people’s force.
The opposition leader said the focus was on strengthening human, civil, economic, social, political, religious and cultural rights and that the United People’s Power as the country’s alternative government was committed to defending those rights.
Harsha De Silva said : “ Together with some of our foreign policy advisers,we met a number of heads of missions. Exchanged views on important issues including democratic rights of our people. We intend having several such meetings in the coming days w Colombo based diplomats.”
