COLOMBO ; Daily power cuts will not be enforced from Thursday, October (22), following the restoration of the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Power Station Unit 02 to its full generating capacity of 270 megawatts (MW), the National System Operator (NSO) has announced.
Accordingly, the NSO said it no longer requires electricity demand management measures.
In a press release issued today, the NSO confirmed that the unit returned to its full load capacity at 1:31 p.m., allowing the suspension of demand management measures implemented from October 19 to 21.
The restoration is expected to ensure a continuous electricity supply without the need for demand management measures, according to the NSO.
On October 19, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) approved scheduled power cuts across the island for three days, until October 21.
Under the approved schedule, the country was divided into four groups, with each group experiencing a one-hour power interruption daily between 4:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
