COLOMBO — Natya Kala Mandhir proudly celebrates its Golden Jubilee with the grand stage production Potsabai, marking five decades of devotion to classical Indian dance and cultural preservation in Sri Lanka. Founded in 1976, the institution has nurtured generations of dancers into accomplished artists.
It will be staged on September 19th at 5.30 p.m. at Sri Manikka Pillayar Kalai Arangam, Colombo, a testament to half a century of brilliance and devotion.
At the helm is Founder and Director Smt. Vasugy Jegatheeswaran, honored with titles such as Kalasuri and Kalaimaamani. Trained by her mother and refined under Padma Shri Adayar K. Lakshman, she has guided over 153 students through their Arangetram, instilling discipline, humility, and spiritual grace. Her disciples affirm she has shaped them into artists who understand the deeper meaning of Bharathanatyam.
Natya Kala Mandhir has represented Sri Lanka on global stages, from India and Canada’s Expo ’86 to Malaysia, South Africa, and the SAARC Cultural Conference. Productions including Madurai Meenakshi, Shivleela, and Natya Vaibhavam have earned acclaim, with performances before distinguished leaders and at national celebrations.
