COLOMBO Nathasha Edirisooriya, who was in remand for making a controversial statement, was released by the Colombo High Court on a personal bail of Rs. 100,000/- on Wednesday June 5.
Edirisooriya was apprehended at Katunayake International Airport on May 28th, on allegations that she made defamatory comments during her performance on a program in April.
After Edirisooriya was questioned by the police Cyber Crime Investigating Unit, she was produced in court on May 29th, and has been in remand custody since then.
Bruno Divakara, the owner of SL-Vlogs, who was also arrested in connection to Nathasha Edirisooriya’s show, was granted bail by the Fort Magistrate’s Court on the 21st of June 2023.
Several activist and political groups denounced the arrests, citing an infringement by the government on freedom of speech.
