COLOMBO: The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka has urged Muslims to strictly follow the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Heath and other relevant Government authorities.
“ We also urge you to refrain from participating in congregational prayers, and to encourage your family and friends to refrain from same,” the council said in a statement issued on Thursday.
“ We call upon the trustee boards of mosques to assess the COVID threat in your congregation and suspend all gatherings in mosques temporarily, in view of the imminent danger the country is facing with the third wave of the Covid pandemic.
This third wave is supposed to be airborne and survives in air much longer than the previous variants, and is considered more virulent and affecting the young too. Hence we appeal to Muslims to avoid all gatherings, including Ifthars (breakfasts), shopping, playing in groups and shopping. Minimize leaving home unless absolutely necessary, and limit it to one person only.
Let us join in making dua for the protection of our countrymen and people all over the world from this Covid virus this holy month of Ramadan,” the statement concluded.
