SILMIYA YOUSUF
COLOMBO : The chief of the Colombo Dewatagaha Mosque said here on Thursday,April 14 that Muslims who take up part in the protests against the government at the Galle Face Green should avoid congregational prayers such Jumma on Fridays.
Speaking to Colombo Times, Chairman of the Dewatagaha Mosque in Colombo 7 said: “ We understand that a cross-section of Muslim brothers is planning to conduct Jumma prayers at the Galle Face Green on 15th April 2022. This is categorically unacceptable and can result in unanticipated consequences. Since late Islamophobia are spreading hate speech on various social media platforms. Holding prayers and breaking fast at Galle Face have irritated some people, who spew communal venom openly against the Muslims through the news channels. Therefore we have to stop all religious activities taking place at Gotagogama and its surroundings.”
“ If anybody wants to pray please go to one of the masjids at Fort or Kollupitiya. And those who want to show solidarity to the demonstrators at Galle Face, do it in a non-religious manner. Please, don’t wear Prayer Cap, Thobe or Kandura,” Salley added.
