COLOMBO; The National Unity Alliance (NUA) is gravely alarmed by the escalating crisis in Gaza, and it has urged all Muslim nations to rise in unity to safeguard Masjid Al-Aqsa and the lives of innocent civilians in the region.
In a statement release on Sunday, Oct.22, leader of National Unity Alliance Azath Sally, former western province governor, said the current situation is grim, as Israel prepares to launch a large ground offensive into Northern Gaza under the pretence of fighting Hamas. This comes after a sustained barrage of Israeli airstrikes that have resulted in a horrific loss of life, with over 3,000 Palestinian lives sadly cut short. To our great sadness, this statistic includes at least 500 innocent victims who died just yesterday in a hospital. Even the UN Secretary-General has expressed his outrage at the growing tragedy on Twitter, describing he is ‘horrified’
“The NUA believes it is our moral obligation as individuals, as a collective, and as a united ummah to solve this catastrophic situation with the urgency it requires. We strongly urge all Muslim countries to recognise and fulfil their historical obligation to preserve not only the sacred Masjid Al-Aqsa but also the priceless lives of individuals in the region.
Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasised the sacredness of all human life, regardless of faith or race, from the commencement of Islamic history. It is a fundamental tenet of Islam to protect the innocent and oppose oppression. The Holy Quran and Hadith emphasise the significance of protecting the faithful’s lives and maintaining their ability to worship in peace.
The Arab and Muslim world’s silence in the face of such great suffering is very disturbing. We urge our global brothers and sisters to work together to put a stop to this human tragedy. We must remember that compassion, justice, and the safeguarding of human dignity are at the heart of our faith.
The NUA expresses its solidarity with the Palestinian people and calls on the international community to take immediate action to end the violence and protect civilians in Gaza. We urge all Muslim countries to cooperate together, through diplomatic channels and international pressure, to bring this situation to a swift conclusion. The carnage must stop, and all people’s rights and lives in the region must be protected.
We urge all those in positions of power and influence to fight hard for peace and justice, remembering that the duty to protect the innocent transcends borders, governments, and ideologies. Let us work together to fulfil our historical and moral commitments, aiming for a future in which everyone can worship and live in peace and security.”
