Prophet Muhammad (Sal) says “Seeking knowledge is a duty of every Muslim, man or woman’, making it a social responsibility to educate the society as a whole. In this great endeavour of imparting education and moulding the future generation, schools play the vital role, that shapes them and makes their personalities with values embodied.
Hence as the Principal of Muslim Ladies College, Colombo 4, one of the leading schools in Sri Lanka, I am so proud to mention that we work with a vision to produce competent citizens who exercise the Islamic values while protecting the Sri Lankan identity. This is achieved through a mission of producing competent citizens who suit the national and global arena through innovative and modern approach to education leading to high quality performance ensuring Islamic identity.
Muslim Ladies College, being the pillar of future girl students, got established with the vision of ensuring the right for education of Muslim girls, by founder father, Sir Razik Fareed on the 1st of November 1946. Since then the school is in marching on with its vision.
Infrastructure facilities of the school have been developed since its establishments through generous support from philanthropists in the society together with the Ministry of Education. the eight storeyed building that the school has received today by the benevolent support of two well-known philanthropists, Dr. Fazli Nizar, the President of All Ceylon Moor Association and Mr. Al Haj. E.A. Kareem, the Chairman of EAM Maliban Textiles Pvt. Limited, lift is an evidence here.
Muslim Ladies College celebrates its 75th Anniversary
COLOMBO : Today Muslim Ladies College marches forward with more than 3300 students in all three media Tamil, Sinhala and English. This provides them a conducive environment to learn all three languages and to develop their communication skills which is the timely need for coexistence in today’s context. The gradual progress in the academic excellence of the school is proven through the improved results of the students in general examinations thus letting them reach the different spheres of their ambitions.
While targeting academic excellence, there are more than fifteen active clubs and societies fostering the leadership and soft skills. Students have been given opportunities to take part in national and international level forums and programmes. The school environment has inculcated in the students the value of respect and highest standards of discipline, thus addressing the concept of coexistence in the multicultural society in Sri Lanka.
Students of Muslim Ladies’ College have shown their excellence in sports too. Netball, badminton, archery and chess are four much favoured sports at Muslim Ladies College. The lack of a playground for the school where around 3300 students pursue their education has been a constraint in nurturing their capacities in sports.
teachers, I, as the Principal of this prestigious school always feel blessed. They have proven themselves in encouraging inquisition and motivation in the minds of their students and children are given an environment to feel comfort. The School Development Executive Committee of the school and Past Pupils Association of the school and its Vice President Mrs. Feroza Muzammil forever have been ready to give their unreserved support.
Having women personalities today in various fields and spheres inside Sri Lanka and elsewhere in the world, Muslim ladies College, is always very proud of its place in the minds of the society. I believe enhancing the facilities in school can create better avenues for students to excel in extracurricular activities and development of an auditorium and an indoor stadium is felt as a timely need.
I congratulate all my staff, students, parents, past pupils and well-wishers on this day and with all the Blessing from almighty I wish Muslim Ladies College will have the brightest future and always be a national monument in building the nation as a whole.
