COLOMBO : The All-Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama , ACJU, and also the Muslim Department which functions under the ministry of Buddha Sasana and religious and cultural affairs in the country are oblivion to the problem of the consignment of 40, 000 copies of the holy Quran which is lying awaiting clearance at the Colombo Customs for the past three months .
The disappointing story starts from one Sadiq Hajiar, a Sri Lankan born Philanthropist now based in the holy city of Makkah, had sent the consignment to the Muslim Affairs department for distribution among the deserving Muslims and to various mosques in the island.
Sadiq Hajiar says that the holy Qurans were despatched with the consent of the Muslim department and with an understanding with the ACJU.
The consignment comprises 25,000 copies of the the Holy Quran and 15,000 copies of the Tamil translation of the holy book.
The Muslim community is also upset over the undue delay of the clearance of the bundles and bundles of the holy Quran which should have gone to the beneficiaries in accordance with the expectations of the donor of these holy books.
Sadiq Hajiar blames the lackadaisical attitude of the Muslim department and the ACJU for this state of affairs.
The department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and the ACJU should focus on this problem to resolve them and get these books cleared from the Customs and get the goods delivered to the beneficiaries before the problem takes different shapes!
