COLOMBO : The Foreign Employment Bureau of Sri Lanka signed a memorandum of understanding on Saturday, June 10, under the supervision of the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, between the Sri Jinaratana Educational Institute affiliated to the Gangarama Temple and Korean Coollife Institutes to start a training center aimed at sending skilled workers for Korean ship construction jobs.
Hilmi Aziz, Chairman of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Mr. Prasad Jayaweera, Secretary of the Board of Governors of Sri Jinaratana Education Institute, and Mr. John Yung Lim, CEO of Korean Coollife, signed the agreement.
According to this cooperation agreement, workers are to be trained for jobs in the Korean shipbuilding industry. Workers are to be trained for welding jobs in the ship construction industry in the initial phase and ship painting training and electrical training are to be provided in the second phase.
Korean language training is also scheduled to be given to all the trainers who are being trained for jobs in the ship construction industry.
The Sri Jinaratana Educational Institute affiliated to the Gangarama Temple provides the necessary facilities for training and the Korean Coollife Institute conducts the training. The Korean trainers are also going to be coordinated by the institute.
All the trainers who receive this training will be given the necessary support for Sri Lanka to obtain the employment quotas for providing employment opportunities to Sri Lankan workers and the necessary coordination activities to direct them to jobs in the Korean ship construction industry.
The Foreign Employment Bureau will conduct monitoring activities to ensure the quality of the relevant training activities.
Kondanya Thero, Shrastrapati Hinkumbure, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau General Manager Priyantha Senanayake, who is a resident of Gangarama Vihars, were present at the signing of the agreement.
