COLOMBO : Colombo Municipal Council Member Mohamed Anas, who surrendered to the police through his lawyers upon a direction issued by the Station OIC of Kompannyaweediya
Police in connection with two complaints was granted bail on Wednesday, June 22.
The complaints alleged that Mohamed Anas was involved in damaging the residence of Mahinda Kahandagama ( MMC) and a hotel belonging to MP Jonston Fernando during the aftermath of the events of May 9 that took place predominantly in the Colombo 2 area.
Upon surrendering, MMC Mohamed Anas Anas was produced to Court under several non-bailable Penal sections.
The case was taken up before Magistrate Thilina Gamage and MMC Anas was represented by senior Attorney Shiraz Noordeen and Pasan Weerainghe.
On hearing the bail application of Noordeen, the magistrate released the suspect on bail for Rs.100000/- surety bond. The Judge also informed the OIC of Kompannyaweediya police to not to produce suspects unless there are enough evidence and justifiable grounds to charge them. Case will be taken up again on June 27.
